Data Security and Backup

Depending on your needs, we offer several solutions for you to choose from including Data Backup, Fault Tolerance, and Secure Email Certificates.

Data Backup Service

Data backup refers to a scheduled, recurring backup of your important information. This service offers you the ability to access data (via a data restore) even if you have deleted the file or it has become corrupted.

Information recovery inquiries should be directed to RCOE Technical Support via the Help Request System.

Note: Data Backup and Recovery Solutions are currently limited to data stored on RCOE Servers.

Fault Tolerance

The service includes the purchase of a specially configured desktop computer (laptops not available) that provides you with two (2) hard drives that automatically replicate the files on your computer, so that in the event that a hard drive dies physically, little to no data is compromised.

Secure Digital Certificates

Digital Certificate
A digital certificate is a special message signed by a certificate authority that contains the name of some user and their public key in such a way that anyone can "verify" that the message was signed by no one other than the certification authority and thereby develop trust in the user's public key.

The Reich College of Education maintains a Certificate Authority assigned to issue certificates for the following uses:

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for web server identification
  • Client Authentication (Advanced SSL for use with browser identification)
  • Digitally Sign Email
  • Digitally Encrypt Email

There are two (2) options for obtaining certificates, however both options provide a secure 128-bit encryption scheme and trusting credentials.

First: Obtain Certificate from Reich College of Education Enterprise Root CA

Advantages:

  • There is no cost for these certificates
  • Identity for User Certificates can be verified in-house

Disadvantages:

  • Only Trusted by the Reich College of Education
  • Users must choose to trust your certificates

Second: Obtain a Trusted third-party certificate

Advantages:

  • 99% of operating systems and browsers already trust the certificate and users can be assured of your identity Trusted automatically by the Reich College of Education

Disadvantages:

  • There is a yearly fee associated with obtaining these certificates
  • Identity verification can be a several-day process
