Support Policy

  • The RCOE will support one computer per faculty/staff member. Faculty/staff will have the option of a desktop or laptop (docking solution where appropriate) computer.
    • Faculty/staff computers shall be updated, upgraded or replaced on a three year cycle, funding permitted.
    • Exceptions to one supported computer must be presented to the RCOE Technology Advisory Committee for approval (grants, projects, or special needs)
  • RCOE will provide technical support to all college/university owned technology.
    • Technology will be supported on-campus only. Repairs, updates or upgrades will be performed by support staff on-campus when necessary.
    • All requests for support must be submitted via the RCOE Technology Help Request System. http://support.rcoe.appstate.edu/hrs/
  • RCOE assumes no responsibility for personally owned computers. Faculty/staff may contact the Technical Support Service’s Walk-in Support center for minor personal computer problems. http://www.walkin.appstate.edu/.
    • RCOE technology staff (including student workers) will not provide support for personal computing needs as part of their assignment in the RCOE.
    • RCOE technology staff may agree to provide support for faculty/staff on a personally contracted basis outside regular working hours.
      • Payment for services shall be agreed upon by parties involved prior to initiation of the service.
      • The RCOE assumes no responsibility/liability for this support.
      • RCOE staff and end-user - if an employee of the RCOE - must sign a disclaimer for RCOE responsibility. (Stating that the work is being done by private contract between technology staff and faculty/staff and the RCOE and ASU assume no responsibility for the completion/quality of the work performed.
  • All technology purchases in the RCOE must be processed by RCOE Technology staff prior to purchase to ensure compatibility and supportability. The RCOE technology staff will provide technical specifications and/or purchasing quotations on all technology purchases. Large scale technology purchases will be discussed and approved by the RCOE Technology Advisory Committee to ensure that technology aligns with the RCOE Technology Plan.
